BBC Learning comes to Tech City - Education tech and digital skills special!

We're proud to announce that our next monthly meet-up event will be hosted in collaboration with BBC Learning!

Edmix is hosting a demo session with a difference, inviting four speakers from the BBC Learning to the heart of Tech City!
Like many in the edtech community, we're interested in learning more about what the BBC has planned in the edtech and digital skills space. From trail-blazing online products like Bitesize revision guides, to putting digital training and development at the heart of the organisation, the next Edmix event give you - the edtech entrepreneur, educator or enthusiast - the chance to connect with the team driving learning innovation at the BBC.

The BBC has been committed to education and learning since its first schools broadcast in 1924. This commitment is part of its core mission and drives much of its output. The underlying ambition of the BBC's strategy for learning is 'to inspire a life of learning for everyone' by exploiting the educative potential that exists across the full range of the BBC's output and activities, from news to music, science to the arts, sport and drama.
Led by the Learning department, the aim is to work with some of the BBC's best known programmes and brands to maximise their learning value and take advantage of the revolution in technology that brings radio, television and the internet ever closer together. Online is key to delivering offerings such as Bitesize revision, supporting adult learners in developing essential skills and providing classroom resources for teachers.

Myles Runham, Head of Online, BBC Academy

From around 15 years in the online world, the last five have been spent at the BBC. First as Head of Interactive Learning, running the teams and projects providing digital services for school pupils, teachers and parents. Currently, as Head of Online for the BBC Academy, managing all digital and online activity of the professional learning and development functions for staff and the industry. Across this experience user focus and meeting user expectations have become guiding principles.

Myles will be speaking about what he calls “The space between the clip and the course”. How can online tools and products fill this gap?

Howard Baker, Innovations Editor, BBC Learning R&D
Howard is Innovations Editor for BBC Learning in the R&D unit. Howard looks to the future of digital media and technology in identifying new possibilities for the BBC to fulfil its learning and educational mission. This includes following technology opportunities, developments and collaborations with organisations.
SPEAKER THREE: Andrew Lees, coFounder of Damn Fine Media (and Ex-BBC's Bitesize Director)
Andrew will be speaking about his time at BBC Bitesize, the decisions that shaped Bitesized into a leading edtech product and and his view on a populist approach to learning technologies.

Edmix are excited to announce that we're supporting TeachMeet Tech City again, hosted by Urban Teacher, Mark Martin (@urban_teacher!
TeachMeet is an organic movement of educators who are passionate about ICT and technology; Mark started this local group to reflect the exciting developments happening in education - and in Tech City.
Please note that TeachMeet does not allow non-educators to speak (to promote) their products: Edmix supports this, but believes that edtech entrepreneurs can learn a lot from listening to educators explore their ICT teaching practices and how they use their products.
TeachMeet Tech City: 6pm - 7pm

Drinks break

Edmix: 7.30pm - 8.30pm
